MLB Pitcher Jeff Criswell Uses Red Light Therapy

Major League Pitchers Use Red Light Therapy

Having the ability both as a starter and reliever at Michigan, Criswell was  picked to join the Athletics (A’s)

Pitcher Jeff Criswell is a strong pitcher, with repeatable mechanics, whose fastball works between 93-96 mph. He also throws a mean change up and a sneaky slider. Using his arm as a machine to get strikes and outs, requires serious recovery and that takes red light therapy.

Professional athletes use red light therapy to help them get back to the field they dominate, faster. Solas red light therapy devices were designed, especially for MLB players. Major-leaguer Jeff Criswell uses the Solas Mini before and after a game to keep his arm pitching fastballs and sliders every game without pain.

Our discussion with MLB Pitcher Jeff Criswell

Solas

Tell us a little bit about yourself and your career.

Criswell

I was born and raised in Portage Michigan. After high school I played baseball at the University of Michigan for 3 years. Following my junior year of college, I was drafted by the Oakland A’s. I am currently heading into my second year with the A’s.

Solas

Any specific goals for yourself and your career?

Criswell

My ultimate goal is to play in the big leagues for the Oakland A’s.

Solas

Have you always had a strong athletic background?

Criswell

Yes, I have. My dad played baseball for the A’s as well, and my sister was a collegiate swimmer at Bowling Green State University. I grew up playing baseball, basketball and football, so athletics have always been a huge part of my life.

Solas

Do you feel that adding better recovery could help enhance any MLB player?

Criswell

No doubt. A regular major league baseball season is long, and recovery is a very important part of making it through the season. Ultimately, you want to feel 100% when you’re out there playing, and being fully recovered helps you play to the best of your abilities.

Solas

How much post training time do you dedicate to the recovery? What are some of your the tools you use for recovery?

Criswell

I usually spend at least an hour a day doing some form of recovery. My favorite recovery tools that I use regularly are the Marc Pro, Normatec, and Hypervolt, as well as contrast therapy in the hot and cold tubs.

Solas

How much priority does recovery take in your training?

Criswell

Recovery is my number one priority after game and training days.

Solas

What got you excited about  Solas and red light therapy?

Criswell

It’s something new that I haven’t tried before, so I was excited to try a new method of recovery that can ultimately help me stay healthy.

Solas

What part of your personal training routine is the toughest to get through, but left you having a harder time receiving from?

Criswell

Training can be tough on the body, and injuries can happen. Sometimes rest just does not cut it. However, I try to make sure I am acknowledging when my body needs a break.

Solas

Have you noticed any benefits since you started using your Solas light?

Criswell

So far the Solas has been a huge help in general muscle soreness. Using the Solas for about 10 min a day has helped speed up the recovery process after training and throwing sessions.

Solas

Would you recommend Solas to other athletes who are looking to enhance their recovery game?

Criswell

I will definitely recommend the Solas machines to other athletes. The mini portable is perfect for on the go recovery and easy to use as well.
